Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd. Mishra (Retd.) is the former Commander, Counter Hijack Force, National Security Guard (NSG), also known as the Black Cat Commandos. He led a surgical strike against the hijacked Indian Airlines aircraft. After successfully eliminating the hijacker, 126 passengers, 9 infants, and 6 crew members were rescued at Raja Sansi Airfield in Amritsar on April 24, 1993. For this operation, he was awarded a Commendation by the Prime Minister of India.

Education:

Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.). Mishra (Retd.) He is a graduate of Allahabad University and a M.Sc. Madras University. He also holds a MA degree and a M.Sc. He was a faculty member at the College of Combat at Mhow as well as at the Defence Services Staff College at Wellington.

Joining the Indian Army –

Brig (Dr.) B.D. After his training at Indian Military Academy, Mishra was commissioned in Infantry, Madras Regiment on December 17, 1961. After a distinguished army career that spanned 33 years and 7 months, Mishra retired on July 31, 1995. He was awarded an extended two-year service for his meritorious operational service.

Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra fought for the defense of the Nation during the three major wars against India: 1962 against China, 1965 against Pakistan and 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. From 1963 to 1964, he fought against insurgents. From 1979 to 1981, he commanded an Infantry Battlion in Poonch Sector on the Indo-Pak Lines of Actual Control.

Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra commanded an Infantry Brigade in the Indian Peace Keeping Force, (IPKF), in Sri Lanka. He fought against the LTTE in the most intense stage Operation PAWAN on Jaffna–Palali axis. Also, after the Jaffna battles in Vavunia, he fought in Trincomalee from 1987 to 1988.
