Farooq Abdullah is a well-known political figure from his home state of the Indian State of Jammu as well as Kashmir. He was Chief Minister for the past two years in Jammu and Kashmir State. In addition, he also serves as responsible for the Ministry for New and Renewable Energy in the Union Government. He is the child of Sheikh Abdullah who was an influential politician within the National Conference Party and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Farooq Abdullah has described his position regarding Kashmir as the Kashmir issue as pro-Indian and pro-autonomy. Farooq Abdullah is the son of sheikh Abdullah (a prominent leader of the nationalist movement in Kashmir). His father, Sheikh Abdullah was a leader on the national scene and was the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. After finishing his studies after which he travelled to England and became an English doctor. He became close with Molly the British civilian nurse, who was married to. In 1987, the group joined forces together with Congress to create the government of Jammu as well as Kashmir. There are many causes for worry for the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir in the present. Extremism and unemployment were prevalent and Farooq could not manage them.

He was removed from his post office by Governor Jagmohan during his time in the position of Chief Minister between 1982 and 1984 and returned to power in the year 1986 after having negotiated with Congress.


The year 2002 saw his cabinet elected INC-PDP, led by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. The coalition was defeated. Farooq Abdullah has also been regarded for his skill in delivering speeches. The Kashmiri Party supports the autonomy of Kashmir within the Indian constitution, and believes for there should be a Line of Control should be defined to be an internationally recognized border. Farooq Abdullah is an active part of Delhi Golf Club, Royal Spring Golf Course, Kashmir & St Andu Scotland Golf Club. He is also President of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association.

1982 1983: Election to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and later became the Secretary of State for Health.

1983: He joined 1983 the Assembly again and then became the chief minister.

1987: He was elected to the elections to Assembly for the 3rd time, and was elected the new chief minister.

1996 The year 1996: He won the Assembly elections for the fourth consecutive time and was appointed the chief minister of the state.

2002: Nominated for the Rajya Sabha for the first time.

2008: Incorporated into to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly for the fifth time.

2009: Became the Union Minister in 2009 for New and Renewable Energy.

2009: Was elected president of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference.
