KP Singh was born on the 15th of August 1931, in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh into a famous Jat landlord’s clan. After graduating from science at Meerut College (Uttar Pradesh) He then went to Britain to learn about aeronautical engineering. After completing his engineering studies in Britain and being chosen as a member of the British Officers Service Selection Board to join the Indian Army. This led to him being accepted into in the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun and later commissioned into the cavalry regiment of the Indian Army. Within a couple of days, he resigned from his army position.

KP Singh resigned from his army post and entered the real estate industry of his father-in-law Chaudhary Singh, who was the founder of “DLF”. In 1960, he joined the American Universal Electric Company, a joint venture between Universal Electric Company, Owosso (Michigan), and the Singh family. In the following year, he established a second company called “Willard India Limited’ along with ESB Inc. of Philadelphia to produce battery industry in India and was appointed the Managing Director of the company.
In 1979, American Universal Electric Company “DLF Universal Limited” and K.P. Singh were appointed the director general of the newly formed company. As director of the DLF, K.P. Singh began developing the land in the rural areas in Gurgaon (Haryana) according to his plans. An idea popped into Singh to build a small town near Delhi and he decided to buy lots. He had success in this business. He started to see a brighter future for his Gurgaon real estate sector which led to enormous growth in the industry.
As time passed, his vision took shape and ideas began to form. Gurgaon is regarded for being one of the top real estate and business centers in India. It is now often referred to as the Millennium City. KP Singh’s sons Rajeev, as well as Piya, are in the real estate company with him.
