Biography Of Michael Faraday

Michael Faraday (1791-1867) was a prominent British scientist, who among other discoveries helped make electricity a property that could easily be used.

“Nothing is too amazing to be true if it is consistent with the laws of nature; and in such things like these, experimentation is the best way to test such consistency.”

– Michael Faraday

Faraday was born in south London on 22 September 1791 to poor parents. Faraday left school at the age of 14 and began an apprenticeship as a bookbinder. He was an avid reader and learned many scientific concepts from books. Faraday, despite having only a basic understanding of maths, was largely self-taught. He became one of the most important scientists in history.

He was 20 years old when he received tickets to Humphrey Davy’s lecture series in 1812. Michael gave Davy a 300-page note on the lectures after the lecture. Davy was impressed and hired Faraday to assist him. He was later appointed as a Fullerian Professor of Chemicals at the Royal Institution of Great Britain.

His early work was centered on chemistry. He was a specialist in the study of Chlorine and new chloride carbon. Faraday was a brilliant inventor. One of his most valuable pieces of chemistry equipment was the Bunsen burner. Faraday discovered a way to make higher temperatures by mixing gas and air before lighting. His Bunsen burner model was created and is still being used in laboratories all over the world.

Faraday’s greatest accomplishment was the invention of electricity and electromagnetism. Although everyone knew about electricity, Faraday was the one who provided a constant source of electricity. His 1821 electro-magnetic rotating model was the way he did this. He was later able to create the first electric dynamo. His theories of electromagnetism were influential in the development of electricity in the nineteenth century.

Biography Of Michael Faraday

Faraday was not only a well-known scientist but also took on other science-related projects. Charles Lyell and Faraday compiled a report about the dangers of coal dust after a major explosion in a County Durham coal mine in 1865. Unfortunately, he did not make any concrete recommendations until the 1913 coal disaster. Faraday also examined the levels of pollution in London’s River Thames and offered recommendations for improving the city’s air and water quality. He was also interested in protecting ships from corrosion and designing lighthouses.

Faraday was a scientist and an expert in his field. However, he also could share science with others through his popular lectures. Faraday used humor, humor, and props to energize the audience by demonstrating experiments and encouraging them to think critically about the significance of scientific findings they saw all around. Faraday delivered Christmas Lectures to young audiences at the Royal Institution, London, between 1827 and 1860. This tradition continues today.

Faraday was a strong believer in God. He belonged to the Sandemanian Church, a Christian sect that was founded in the eighteenth Century. It is an offshoot of The Church of Scotland. His religious beliefs were a major influence on his work. He was determined to demonstrate the unity between God and nature through scientific discoveries.

“I will be with Christ, and that is sufficient.”

Michael Faraday answers questions about the afterlife

He may have refused to develop chemical weapons for the Crimean War because of his religious beliefs. He was a Sandemanian Church elder and deacon. Faraday married Sarah Barnard on 12 June 1821. He met Sarah through his church. They had no children.

Faraday began to lose his health in the 1840s and began doing less research. Faraday died at Hampton Court on 25 August 1867. He had been given lodgings as a token of appreciation for his contributions to science.
