History and Architecture of Chilkur Balaji Temple

A Lord Venkateswara Swamy Darshan devotee visits Tirupati every year. However, he is unable to visit Tirupati due to his illness. In his dreams, Lord Venkateswara was moved by his devotion and instructed him to locate his idol and build the Temple. The devotee discovered a molehill, as Lord Venkateswara had indicated. The axe hit Lord Balaji’s chest and chin, and he began digging the hill. The ground was covered in blood, shocking the devotee. He heard a voice say, “Flood the mole in cow’s milk.” This was done by the devotee, who found the Swayambu Idols of Lord Balaji and Sridevi. The devotee built the Temple.

Rituals at Chilkur Temple

The uncles of Bhakta Raddas, Madonna, and Akkanna built the Temple. Many people cannot travel to Tirupati and come to this place for Chilkur Balaji darshan. Balaji is also known as Visa God or Visa Balaji Temple. Here, many devotees pray for visas. The Chilkur temple follows a certain pattern of praying. They ask for 11 pradakshinas from Lord Balaji to grant a wish; when the desire is granted, they perform 108 Pradakshinas as a gesture of gratitude. 11 is “1 soul and 1 body”, 108 is “1 as the existence and creation of almighty and 0 as creation, and eight represents the time it took for the human body to enter the Universe. They do the rounds by chanting and reciting mantras. High-educated priests motivate devotees by speaking live in English or Telugu.
