Many devotees visit the Chottanikkara Temple in Kerala. This temple is located near Kochi. Devi Bhagavati is the main deity at this temple. She is a form of Mahalakshmi and lives with Maha Vishnu. Chottanikkara Devi, another name for this Goddess, is Chottanikkara Devi.

Different names for the Goddess include Mahalakshmi and Durga as well as Rajarajeswari and Mahalakshmi. There are many legends surrounding this temple that attest to its ancient.
History of the Chottanikkara temple:
Adi Shankaracharya prayed for the Mahalakshmi Devi’s appearance before he meditated. He then asks the Devi to remain in the temple of Kerala state. He told Devi that he shouldn’t look back.
Adi Shankaracharya accepted and set out on foot to return home to Kerala. Mahalakshmi Devi walked behind him and could hear the jingling from her anklets.
At one point, the sounds stopped and Adi Shankaracharya redirected his gaze. The condition states that the Goddess stopped and then changed into a Murti at this location.
This is the famous Mookambika Temple in Udupi. Adi Shankaracharya appealed for pardon to the Goddess. Mahalakshmi Devi was only able to reach Chottanikkara and the temple is currently there.
