The story of Ghushmeshwar
It’s the story of an outstanding Brahmin scholar Brahmavetta Sudharm along with his beloved wife Sudha who lived in the southern part of Devagiri (later called Daulatabad).
They don’t have children, and the afflicted Sudeha convinces the sister Ghushma to get married to Sudharma in order to bear a baby together.
In the end, Ghushma and Sudharm gave birth to a son who was jealous of Sudha. The child grew into to be a handsome and smart young man, and later got became married.
Not able to take the jealousy, Sudha killed the sleeping boy and buried his body in the lake. Sushma who was suffering from grief carried on her normal routine.
During the morning ritual of going to the lake, where she typically creates a hundred lingas and praises, she saw her son escaping from the lake. Then, Lord Shiva appeared before her and declared that Sudha had killed her son.
Sushma was elated by the gratitude, and he offered to give her her son back, and also granted her a blessing. Ghushma was then able to forgive his sister and pleaded with the Lord to keep him in the location.
God granted her wish and was as Jyotirlinga. So, he was given the name Ghushmeshwar to honor Sushma.
