Gnana Saraswati Basara Temple

The temple is located on the river Godavari of Nirmal District, Telangana State. The main god of this Temple is Goddess Saraswathi who is the goddess in the realm of Knowledge. The temple is considered to be one of two temples dedicated to Goddess Saraswathi located in Kashmir named Sharada Peeta.

Famous Basara Temple History:

The mythology of the temple after the bloody Kurukshetra War, Sage Vedavyasya came to the Dandaka forest located on the coast of the Godavari river and his child Shakuni to lead a tranquil life. He was impressed by how beautiful the area was and decided to build a refuge in the Dandaka forest.

In the meantime, Vedavyasya dreamed of creating a temple for three goddesses by goddess Jaganmata. Then, he brought three hands of dunes and formed three goddesses by using sand. Since this time the three goddesses have been covered in turmeric and were worshipped. It is believed that whoever eats the piece of turmeric that is coated with gods will increase their wisdom and knowledge.

The location was referred to as Vasara from Vyasya Sage. Due to the influence of a few Maharastra tribesmen, the temple was given the name Basara.

It is also believed that the temple was the place where Valmiki was able to write Ramanyanam in dedication to the text of Saraswathi, the goddess of love. Also, there is the marble tombstone of Valmiki Sage near the temple.

According to history, there was a Karnataka King called Bijjaludu who built this shrine in 6 the century due to his position as in charge of Nandagiri during that time.
