History of Jalaram Bapa Mandir
Jalaram Pradhan Thakkar, also known as Jalaram Bapa, was born to Pradhan Thakkar, his father, and Rajbai Thakkar, at Virpur, Gujarat, on 14th November 1799.
His mother was fond of sadhus and sadhus. Rajbai’s hospitality was a must for any sadhu who left Virpur.
Rajbai Thakkar was Bapa’s mother. Raghuveeradasji told her that her son would be a prominent preacher about the importance and piety of good deeds.
Bapa was a religious woman and learned patience, self-sacrifice to serve her family, kindness, respect, and self-sacrifice from her mother. Bapa, when he was a little boy, was visited by a saint. Little Jalaram became spiritually inspired, began reciting the rhymes from ‘Sita Ram’, and dedicated his entire life to God.
Bapa’s Wedding
Jalaram, then sixteen years old, married Virbhai Somaija, a daughter of Thakkar Prague. His wife supported him in his efforts to help the poor, even though he was reluctant. He set off on a holy pilgrimage at age 18 with his wife and received Bhojalarama.
Bapa Guru founded ‘Sadavrat,’ which provides food for all the poor. They worked hard to grow the grains, and Veerbhai was delighted to sell her wedding jewelry to help feed the pilgrims.
Sri Jalaram Bapa
Harari, a tailor who suffered from severe stomach pains, eventually came to Bapaiya. The great saint prayed for him and healed his illness. Surprised, the tailor fell at Bapa’s feet and addressed him as “Bapa”.
This is when he was referred to as Jalaram Bhapa. His disciples were all devotees of any religion. Jalaram Bapa was greeted by Rama in the disguise of an older man. He was unhappy about his age and asked for someone to take care of him.
Bapa sent his wife who happily accompanied him on his journey. They reach a river and the older man gives Virbhai a stick, and a bag for him to catch.
Soon Rama vanishes and a voice returns home claiming that Jalaram wants him to prove his goodness so he could bring his wife. The bag and stick can still be seen in Jalarambapa Ashram, Virpur.
Baba’s food will be taken to the gates of heaven by devotees. This temple serves free food to thousands of people every day.
