Kaviyoor Mahadevar Temple is one of Kerala’s top Siva temples. It is located in Kaviyoor village located in the Tiruvalla Pathanamthitta District in Kerala state. According to the legend, upon returning to Ayodhya in the aftermath of beating Ravana Lord Sri Rama set the main idol of Lord Shiva before Sita, Hanuman, Sugreeva, and Vibheeshana. Lord Sri Rama gave the task of Hanuman to bring the precious Sivalimga out of the Himalayas.

Hanuman was in Hanuman and went to the Himalayas to search for a Sivalinga that was unique, and he spent time in the Himalayas. As the time for Prathishta was nearing and Lord Rama decided to complete the task immediately, and He fashioned the Sivalinga from the earth in that area and dedicated to it. As Hanuman arrived after his journey, he was shocked to find that the Prathishta was completed.

In the end, Lord Rama advised Hanuman to get rid of his Prathishta to replace it with the Divyalinga that he brought. Hanuman tried his best effort however the newly formed earthen Linga was not changed. Instead, the ground surrounding was beginning to grow up, becoming a slight mound.

In the end, Hanuman sought forgiveness and sought God Rama in return for his permission to live near the Divya Prathishta that he completed throughout his life. This led to Kaviyoor being Hanuman’s residence. This Temple was the most famous Hanuman Temple in Kerala.
