A part of the Kambojas may be the ones who gave their name to the city in southwest India. The small Jain village known as Kamboj close to Nanded in Maharashtra was mostly composed of farmers.

Kumbhoj Devi is an ancient village that is frequented by Shakambari. It is home to the Devi Shakambari Temple is situated near Banashankari close to Badami.

The village was ruled by Brahmins with the surname of “Kulkarni” (now they migrated from the town and changed their names to “Kumbhojkar”), and Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj was a key member of the group who would meet with the Brahmins and provide suggestions regarding critique and politics.

There is a mention of Rishi Kumbhoja, who found the source within the South Indian revisions of the Ramayana. He is believed to have been near an island in the Godavari river. Godavari was somewhere in the southwestern region of India in the Ramayana period.

Kamboja Maharshi is originally from the northwest and appeared to have migrated to the Godavari River, which is south of the Vindhya. The village is known because of its land for agriculture in which sugarcane cultivation is prevalent.
