Mettur Dam has a great story to tell. It is the largest and oldest Dam located in India. The construction began in 1925 it took 9 years for the dam to finish and was officially inaugurated in the presence of Governor Sir George Stanley on August 21, 1934.
The Dam is believed to have been financed with UK funds to evacuate the area of the Dam. However, when the level of its water is reduced, Hindu and Christian sculptures and idols are revealed from the surface.
A Mettur Thermal Power station is an energy source that is a base load for the entire Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. It is among the main sources of electricity for the entire state.
