Osmania University is named after its founder, Nawab Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, who created the university by an agricultural or royal charter in 1918. The establishment of the University of Osmania symbolizes a renaissance in the Indian education system. Osmania University, is the seventh oldest in India, the third oldest in South India and the first to be established in the former princely state of Hyderabad. It has contributed significantly to the scientific and economic development not only of the region but also of the country.
