The Temple is among the Divya Kshetrams of Godavari and is known as Dakshina Ayodhya. The legend says that Vishnu came to the Meru’s son Bhadra to be Sri Rama to respond to the last’s prayers.

In any event, Vishnu overlooked that Rama was a mortal being and appeared with the name Vaikuntha Sri Rama wearing four arms. Sita and Lakshmana form a portion of the moolavar at the sanctuary.

The history of bhadrachalam temple:

In the seventeenth century an Indian lady called Pokal Dhammakka, living in Bhadrareddypalem discovered the Sri Ramachandra symbol Swamy in an insect colony. She eradicated the ant colonies with the aid of the waters of the River Godavari. Thanks to a villager, Dhammakka developed a mandapam and began praying to gods.

In Abul Hasan Qutb Shah (1672-1686), Kancherla Gopanna was the tehsildar for Bhadrachalam. Kabirdas was one of the Muslim revered saints who was praised for his charitable work and was awarded an honorary title to the Ramadas.

In response to Shah’s demands, Gopanna implemented the Jaziya which was a punishment designed to force Hindus to accept Islam. Given the deterioration of the Temple, Gopanna chose to build a temple through donations.

The Temple was completed for six lakhs diverse. After Gopanna got instructions to appear in the courts from the Shah, Gopanna clarified that the Shah never intended to use Treasury funds and would like to repay what was due shortly.

Gopanna was hung if he failed to clear the debt within 12 years. On the day of the twelfth calendar year, Rama as well as Lakshmana were seen in Shah’s dreams and paid the entire amount with Ramadas (gold coins that had Rama’s picture on the back of them).

Shah was awake, and he saw gold coins and released Gopanna. He offered the land in the vicinity of Bhadrachalam to complete the Temple.

History of the Bhadrachalam Temple

Sree Rama was seen in dreams by his lover Pokal Dhammakka and spoke of the gods from Rama, Sita, and Laxmana in Bhadragiri. Dhammakka took the gods out of the anthill, built the bamboo temple, and also performed a pooja.

Bhagawan Rama had told Dhammakka that one of his followers would build a temple. The devotee transformed in Bhakta Ramadas.

Kancharla Gopanna is a dedicated lover of Rama and is the child of Linganna Murthy and Kamamba. Goppanna was the cousin of Akkanna the administrative head within the courts of Nawab Abdul Hasan Shah, also known by the name of Taneshah from Golconda. Gopanna as Tahsildar of Palvancha Paragana.

When Gopanna learned about the Jatara located at Bhadrachalam and became intrigued and went to the Jatara. The Jatara was where he discovered some of the Idols that Dhammakka discovered in an anthill. As such, Gopanna decided to build the temple.

Gopanna built the temple with the revenues from the land of 6 Lakhs without the approval of Nizam Nawab. Nizam Nawab. The temple was built after Gopanna was referred to as Bhakta Ramadas.

Following the completion of the temple, the real miseries began for Ramadas. They reprimanded them due to the misappropriation of funds for the construction of the temple and he was sentenced to prison to serve 12 years in prison.

A few hours later, at midnight, Rama and Laxmana approached Nawab and offered to pay 6 Lakh Mohurs. They then posed to be Ramoji and Laxmoji who were employees of Bhakta Ramadas. Then, the Nawab was able to see the truth that Rama and Laxmana were there, they paid and then released Ramadas from prison.
