All sections are mandatory. The questions in every section are of various kinds as follows:

Section-Wise Pattern of IIT JAM 2024

Section A is comprised of the totality of 30 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) comprising 10 questions with one mark each, and 20 questions with just two marks. Each MCQ is comprised of four options and only one answer is correct. Candidates can mark their answers by clicking on the answer.

Section B contains Ten Multiple Select questions (MCQs) with two marks for each. Each MSQ is like MCQ however with the exception that an MSQ could include more than one valid choice(s) from the four options available. The student is awarded full credit only if they choose the correct answer(s) and has no incorrect answers. Candidates can choose each answer(s) by clicking on the choice(s).

Section C has twenty Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions that comprise 10 questions of one mark each, and 10 questions with 2 marks per. For these NAT-type tests, answers are a real number that has to be entered via the virtual numeric keypad displayed on the screen. There will be no choices in NAT questions.

Be aware that in all sections, any questions that are not answered will earn zero marks. In Section A (MCQ), the wrong answer will be deducted. An (MCQ) The incorrect answer will be rewarded with negative marks. For each incorrect answer to questions with a mark, 1/3 of the mark is removed similarly, for every incorrect answer to questions with two marks 2/3 mark will be taken away.
