History of the Thirukadaiyur Temple:

Following having won the Samudra Manthan, the Devatas won the battle against Asuras. The Devatas got a pot of Amrit. They decided to eat the Amrit and then gathered in the same place.

They decided to share the pot Amrit but did not remember to call in God Ganesh. Since it was a custom that Lord Ganesh was upset about. Therefore, he took the pot and hidden the pot in Thirukadaiyur.

Before that God Ganesh made a Shivling and then poured Amrit. This is why Lord Shiva is also known as Amrithakadeshwar. The so-called Lord who brings immortality.

Thirukadaiyur has been a place of holy place since then. The people began paying homage to the god Lord Shiva as well as Goddess Parvathi. The temple was rebuilt in the Chola empire. In the reign of Rajaraja Chola, I increased the size of the temple.
