In 1965 Dr. Ambedkar fought against the cancellation of a public holiday on his birth anniversary. After this incident, he decided to fight for the suffering society. He studied the entire caste system and the writings of Dr. BR Ambedkar in depth and worked immensely for the upliftment of Dalits. Finally, in 1971, he quit his job and founded the Employees Welfare Association of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Castes, and Minorities with a colleague.

The organization is registered at the office of the Charity Officer, Poona. Although this organization was formed to prevent the exploitation of workers from the affected community and for effective redressal, the main objective of this organization is to create awareness among the people and make them aware of the caste system. Gradually, more and more people joined this organization due to which it became very successful.

In 1973, Kanshiram along with his colleagues founded BAMCEF (Backward and Minority Communities Employees Federation), whose first functional office opened in 1976 in Delhi. The motto of this organization is Educate, Organize and Agitate. This organization did the fundamental work of making Ambedkarโ€™s thoughts and beliefs accessible to the public. After this, Kanshiram strengthened his expansion system and made people aware of the caste system, its production in India, and the ideas of Ambedkar. Wherever he went, he spread his word and got the support of people on a large scale.

In 1980, a walk called โ€˜Ambedkar Melaโ€™ was started to tell the life of Ambedkar and his thoughts through pictures and stories. In 1984, Kanshiram founded Dalit Shoshit Samaj Sangharsh Samiti parallel to BAMCEF. The committee was formed to protect activists who were attacked for spreading awareness about the caste system. Although this organization is not registered, it is a political organization.

In 1984, Kanshiram founded a political party called the Bahujan Samaj Party. In 1986, he transformed from a social worker to a political leader, saying that he would not work in any organization other than the Bahujan Samaj Party. Through party meetings and his speeches, Kanshiram said that if the governments promised to do something, they should also fulfill them, otherwise they have to admit that they do not have the power to fulfill the promises.
