Shiv Nadar is an eminent Indian businessman in the field of IT. He is the chairman and founder of HCL as well as the Shiv Nadar Foundation. He started HCL in the late 1970s and slowly transformed the company into famous in the hardware industry as in its IT industry. To acknowledge his contribution to the IT sector and the IT industry, HCL was honored by the Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan award. Shiv is committed to improvement within the IT sector, as also as to a change in education in the nation. The work is carried out by the Shiv Foundation.

Shiva Nadar was born on 18th July 1945 in Mulaipuji village located in the Thoothukudi district in Tamil Nadu. Siva was educated in the primary school at Town Higher Secondary School, Kumbakonam. The school was his home between 1955 and 1957. Then he received his pre-university diploma from ‘The American College’ in Madurai’. Following that, he completed his degree with a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from PSG College, Coimbatore.

Shiv began his career at Cooper Engineering in Pune in 1967 but was not happy with the work as he wanted to establish his own company. In 1976, he started Micro Comp Ltd along with six young engineers. They began selling Teledigital calculators. Then he founded an Indian company that manufactured computers called “Hindustan Computers Limited (HCL) and entered the market under the name ‘HCL’ in 1982, with the launch of its first computer.
One of the major reasons for HCL was the fact that just in the year (1977) IBM had left India and left a massive space in the IT sector. Utilizing the full potential of this fact, HCL has filled this gap. In addition, the company has won the hearts of its clients. Following this, Nadar was not looking back and settled down on foreign soil, too and, victory after victory, washed his feet.
In the next few days, Nadar integrated five companies into his IT company – HCL Technologies (Global IT Services Company), HCL Comnet (Network Services Company), HCL Infosystems (Indian IT Hardware Leader), HCL Perot (IT Applications) and NIIT (Education Services). That’s it

In 1980, HCL began to enter the market internationally by establishing “Far East Computers” in Singapore to market hardware for IT. The venture earned an amount of approximately 10 lakhs in the initial year. Nadar is still the largest shareholder.
In 1989 HCL tested its luck in the American hardware market for computers, but the venture was unsuccessful and the company walked away from its PC business in the year 1991.
Nadar announces the clinic chain HCL Avitas in association with John Hopkins Medicine International.
Alongside this incredible achievement, Nadar was also associated with social work and founded the “Shivanadar Foundation” through which he began working for the improvement of education in the Indian educational system. He established the ‘SSN College of Engineering in Chennai which is today one of the most prestigious engineering colleges that are privately owned in the world. Following this, he established the foundation of the ‘Shiv Nadar University located in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh in which undergraduate, as well as postgraduate, and professional degrees, are offered. The government schools ‘Vidyagyan’ are being constructed within Uttar Pradesh where free world-class education is offered to children in rural areas.
Awards and Honours
1995 Dataquest declared him the ‘IT Man’ of 1995.
2005: The Prime Minister was honored the Prime Minister with the ‘CNBC Business Excellence Award.
2006: Awarded Honorary Fellowship by All India Management Association (AIMA).
2007. The University of Madras awarded him an honorary Doctorate Degree (DSC) for his work in the field of encouraging the use of software.

2007. Ernst & Young honored him with their ‘Entrepreneur Of The Year 2007′ award.
2008 He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2008 for his work in the public sector, which includes technology trade as well as industry.
In 2009, Forbes magazine included him as one of the ’48 Heroes Of Philanthropy’ from the Asia Pacific region.
2010: Received ‘Dataquest Life Time Achievement Award.
Shiva is currently president at IIT Kanpur.
