History of The Temple

Once, a hunter visited this location to hunt. He saw a bird and pursued it. The bird was aware of this and fled in his Shiva Lingam to help save its life. Lord Shiva was seen in front of the hunter and asked him to not shoot the bird but instead to grab the bird’s brain. The hunter complied and took Lord Shiva’s brain with his fingers. Then, there appeared to be gaps in Shiva Lingam. Then, shortly after, Goddess Ganga elevated from the holes.

Sri Shankaracharya was once in the temple along with his followers. He was curious about the reasons for the holes. He put a spoon laced to a thread in the hole. The spoon was pushed deep into the hole and came to a stop at a point. They pulled the spoon using the line and saw blood stains on it. Shankaracharya realized his error and admitted it to Lord Shiva and then left.
